Perceptual Quality of Audio-Visual Content with Common Video and Audio Degradations

Audio-visual quality assessment remains as a complex research field. A great effort is being made to understand how visual and auditory domains are integrated processed by humans. In this work, we analyzed compared the results of three psychophisical experiments that collected content scores given pool subjects. The include diverse audio-visual material, e.g., Sports, TV Commercials, Interviews, Music, Documentaries Cartoons, impaired with several (bitrate compression, packet-loss, frame-freezing) (background noise, echo, clip, chop) distortions. Each experiment explores particular domain. Experiment 1, video component was degraded artifacts, meanwhile, audio did not suffer any type degradation. 2, while remained untouched. Finally, in 3 both components were degraded. As expected, confirmed dominance overall quality. However, detailed analysis showed that, for certain types distortions, played more important role construction perceived
